The Jack Russell breed is named after its founder the Reverend John Russell who was born in Devon in 1795. By the late 19th century the breed had become well established. An ideal hunter, the Jack Russell Terrier is small but agile, patient and brave, and much prized by the hunter for its ability to go to ground. The coat comes in three types - smooth, broken and rough. The colours are primarily white with tan or black markings on the head, muzzle and loins.
